Beekman Place, a mid-century gem by architect Ralph Haver, had a carport that looked cool in the ’60s but wasn’t doing today’s owners any favors. Our mission? Convert it into a proper garage—goodbye, dusty cars and dated masonry arch (sorry, Ralph).
This project presented many challenges, including matching the new stucco with the beautifully weathered original finish, rerouting mechanicals in a tricky layout, working with old masonry instead of wood framing, and navigating awkwardly placed load-bearing beams.
But with the right tricks and experience, we made it look like it was always meant to be there—just much more functional.
